Wall key holder with decorative flower pot
Wood is a favorite material for many DIY enthusiasts. One or two planks of wood are often all you need for practical, inexpensive storage. And that’s precisely the idea Kelli and Kristi came up with from the Lollyjane blog. So let’s see what other materials are needed for this quick and easy wall mounted keychain DIY project. !
The first step in the manufacture of this wall key holder is to collect the necessary materials. We will need a wooden board, two-color paint (optional: slate finish), a small jar or flower pot, a succulent plant (natural or artificial), a metal clamp , a foam brush and a hook.
To begin with, we take care of the painting of the wood plank. We can also opt for another decoration technique, such as cutting or aging of wood. Then we make a hole in the hose clamp with a nail. This step aims to make it easier to attach the collar to your board; it will be more difficult for a screw to penetrate it if you have decided to skip this part of the tutorial. Before moving on to the next step, we install the collar on the wooden board.
We continue by painting the jar or the flower pot; let it dry and secure it to the board with the hose clamp. Then, take your plant and put it in the container already installed on the wooden support.
Finally, we attach the hook to the board. Once this step is completed, you are ready to put your original wall key holder on a vertical surface near your front door.
DIY Wall Key Holder Tutorial with Open Shelves Do It Yourself
Did the idea of making a wooden wall key ring appeal to you, but you want a little more extra storage? So test the following project proposed by I Spy DIY! Here are the materials needed for its realization: wood glue, wooden crates, white paint, a brush, screw hooks.
As always, we start by arranging all the necessary materials on our worktop. Then, we slowly embark on this manual activity project by gluing the crates with wood glue. The resulting wall shelf is left to dry for 24 hours.
Once this time has passed, we get back to tinkering with the next step. It consists in painting the wooden surfaces with white paint; you then decide whether you want to paint the entire shelf or its interior parts only. Of course, we let dry before continuing with the tutorial.
We install the screw hooks on the lower part of its improvised wall storage. Do-it-yourself shelves are now ready to hang on a wall in your hallway !
Finally, we adorn its storage with wall keyring with a selection of various accessories.
How to make an original wall key ring in concrete
Let’s vary the materials a bit and move on to an original tutorial that shows us how to make a concrete wall key ring. Designed by Ashley Rose from Sugar and Cloth, this wall decor accessory is inspired by the latest trends in interior design. He thus adds to the cold surface of the concrete shiny metallic touches, very fashionable at the moment..
To make a concrete wall key ring, we first have a mixture of decorative concrete, a metalized screw hook, a brush and a small container filled with water, waxed paper (optional: gloves, a few small metallic rods to add the shiny touches).
On his countertop, lay out a sheet of waxed paper and prepare his decorative concrete mixture according to the instructions on its packaging. Once the mixture is ready, we make the letters that we would like to display near his front door. Once we have obtained letters in a form that suits us, we work on the details. Using the brush dipped in a little water, clean the sides of the initials for a more professional look.
While the concrete is still easy to shape, slip the end of a key hook inside a letter. Then, we use the rest of the hooks and we introduce them in the upper part of the initials; they will be used to secure the wall key holder to a vertical surface using screws or nails. If necessary, brushes are used to clean the area around the hooks.
If you want to add decorative strips, then go to this step, before allowing the concrete to dry for 48 hours. Once this period has passed, you are free to put your keychain with golden hooks on a wall.
Idea of making wall keychain with black slate
Why use natural wood when you can customize the surface as you wish? The concept of the wall slate is just a simple and chic way to make your wall key holder more interesting. The I Spy DIY blog explains how to do this !
First of all, we provide ourselves with the necessary materials for this DIY deco tutorial: 2 wooden boards, nails, a hammer, chalk, slate paint, wood glue, a panel on which we will stick planks to install them on the wall (or an extra wooden plank), key hooks.
We then move on to the first step: cutting the wooden planks. Once cut, the boards are to be fastened together with nails (step 1 and 2 in the image above). Then paint the boards with slate color and let dry (step 3). To continue, we use glue and fix the key hooks on the boards.
To more easily mount the wall key holder on a vertical surface, the boards are fixed on a wall decoration panel. This can be replaced by a simple wooden board (painted with slate paint beforehand). Finally, you install your cheap keychain in the hallway of your house.
If you want to add a little more color to your DIY storage, decorate it with mini flowerpots and an original message, to be written with chalk.
Wall hanging for storing keys and accessories
When you live near the sea or the ocean, you benefit from an invaluable craft material: driftwood. This can be used to make a lot of natural and inexpensive DIY decoration items. The following tutorial provides a telling example..
To make a chic and natural suspension to display in your entryway, you will need a branch of driftwood, acrylic paint, key hooks, a string to hang the branch, a small paint brush, paint protection tape.
The first step in this DIY wall keychain tutorial is choosing a branch of driftwood. We therefore allow ourselves the time to take a short walk to locate the necessary equipment. Then, back in his manual activities and creative hobbies workshop, we polish the look of the branch with sandpaper.
When the surface of the driftwood is smooth enough, we use the paint protection tape to create patterns. These are to be further emphasized with one or more paint colors. Leave to dry and remove the protective tape before attaching the key hooks.
You end up adding the string to the two ends of the branch and hanging your new wall key holder.
Make a wall keychain – natural decoration with wooden pegboard
The pegboard is a multifunctional panel that allows us to organize several small items such as our keys, glasses, scarves, handbags … The girls at home The Merry Thought had the very good idea of making a wooden pegboard that they used for the wall decoration of their entrance. We are inspired to afford such storage and DIY wall key holder at home !
Here is the list of materials needed for this project: a plank of wood, wood dowels, a circular saw, a miter box, sandpaper, a folding rule, a pencil, a drill, a suitable drill bit, screws, screwdriver.
To create this pegboard with a keychain and wall storage, we first cut the wooden board. The surface is quickly sanded using sandpaper. Then, we measure the wooden dowels to make holes of the corresponding size. To do this, we proceed as shown in the image below.
Using the remaining pieces of wood, cut out one or two small shelves. Fix the pegboard on its wall and add the dowels and shelves (sanded if necessary). And there you have it, this wall storage is ready to accommodate your keys and accessories !
