DIY Christmas decoration 2017: you have already chosen your Christmas tree ?
Which tree to choose for Christmas? If you ask yourself this question every year, it means that you are probably one of the people who prefer natural cut trees. We buy it, we put it at home, we enjoy its beautiful face for a while and then we put it in the trash. In all of this there is nothing new and many people are doing it every year all over the world. What if you don’t want to do the same? Do you prefer a greener Christmas this year? Very well ! We have a few solutions for you …
Choosing an alternative tree to spend a greener Christmas: we say yes !
Making your own Christmas tree is very easy. We have already devoted several publications to this very trendy subject lately. More and more people understand the impact of mass fir tree manufacturing and deforestation. If you are one of the green conscious people, you probably already know that making an alternative Christmas tree is easy. You can use all kinds of objects for this. The goal – to recreate the cone shape of the tree. Cardboard, books, papers, stickers, branches…. Everything can be used to design an original and ecological Christmas tree.
Who says the Christmas tree has to be big and majestic ?
The little tree has a lot of charm and is very cute. It is also ideal for those who live in small spaces. If you like the minimalist design, you will undoubtedly appreciate the small black and white trees made of paper in the photo below.
There are a lot of very hardy and easy to care for houseplants. The tree is not one of them. We love the idea of having a natural potted tree at home, but we must not forget that the fir tree is a tree that likes a cold climate. It is therefore impossible to make it live inside your home. Those with a balcony, terrace or garden can enjoy a natural and living fir all year round. In short, it is always possible to opt for a small potted tree that you can at least take out at the edge of your window. When the weather starts to warm and the temperatures rise, we advise you to plant your tree in the woods.
Houseplant: an alternative green and natural “fir” tree
Another alternative Christmas tree idea is to use another houseplant instead. Succulents are very resistant, for example. They tolerate all climates very well and only need watering occasionally. You can decorate your green houseplant and enjoy the greenery and an alternative “tree” at a time. Too good, right? It is also possible to serve several potted houseplants and have not one, but several small alternative Christmas “trees”. Children will probably like this idea..
Do you have wooden cleats at home that you no longer use? Very well ! You can use it to create an alternative and ecological Christmas tree. For this you will also need hammer and nails. It is even possible to create a tree-library.
If you lack space in your home or you like space-saving solutions, we recommend that you design an alternative wall-mounted tree. It will play a double role: Christmas tree and library at the same time. We love practical and aesthetic solutions, don’t you? All you need to do is have a few wooden cleats and fix them to the wall by recreating the cone shape of the tree (see the photo below). At Christmas you will have a nice space saving alternative “tree” and once the party is over – you will enjoy the beautiful storage shelves. Awesome !
Wall stickers are also great for an alternative Christmas tree that doesn’t take up any space. It’s all the same if you make a large drawing of a tree, for example. The black alternative Christmas tree looks very minimalist and Scandinavian.
